A typical two-color TPE overshoe injection molding machine uses two injection units and specialized two-color molds for multi-stage injection molding. The first component forms the product’s main body or base layer, followed by injection of the second component which forms other functional areas, such as soles, anti-slip areas, decorative elements and logos.
Clear color separation, part wall thickness and color distribution are determined by the mold runner, injection sequence and process parameters.
The two TPE materials must provide good adhesion and have compatible processing temperature ranges.
Before starting production, mold trial and peel adhesion test are recommended, in order to prevent delamination, color bleeding and poor color separation.
The quality of overshoes is affected by softness, tear resistance, flex resistance, and demolding properties. However, TPE materials’ hardness, flow properties, shrinkage, abrasion resistance and rebound resilience may change with the TPE formulation.
Equipment configurations and process parameters should be determined by TPE grades, shore hardness, melt flow behavior and wall thickness of the final product.
Before processing SBS, SEBS, and TPR materials, customers should provide us with the material technical data sheet (TDS) so that we can recommend suitable equipment configurations and process parameters.
For recycled materials, their effects on strength, color variation and interlayer adhesion should be evaluated.
